I moved the shelves out of the doorway. Standing in front of the door that was damaged beyond repair. Staring at the doorknob as my hand reached for it the fear cropped up on me. How is this going to end? I am a bloody mess.
I swing the door as it almost falls over with three people in front of me; a human, a dwarf, and a human with wolf-like ears and tail. Only saw them for a moment as the human shined a light into my face.
The dwarf said with a voice of regret. "Just our luck, an elf and dark elf at that."
"Hey man, don't be like that. Just ignore this guy, you will be safe with us." Said the human.
Noticed that the human had a revolver at his hip, the wolf-like humanoid had a sword, and the dwarf had an axe and some sort of canister attached to his chest. I mustered up my courage and took a foot forward which turned the human's calm expression into a smile.
"So my name is Ryder, the dwarf next to me is Varrick, and Wildlia over there is named DU. So what is your name?"
I was about to answer that question but I gained a throbbing headache. I couldn't remember what my name was. What was it? The only thing I can think of was that sign with the name Vestige Soul. Was that my name?
"Let's go with Soul. So, Soul, we are going to a safe room. We will not force you to come with us but it would be in your best interest to join us."
I nod. "Alright, I join you guys."
DU comes over and taps Ryder on the shoulder. "So that means we are in the back and you and Varrick in the front"
After walking for a while, there was not much talking. I started to notice that DU has a few scars all over including her face and along with that DU looked at me a lot. "Is something the matter?" I asked.
She reacted a bit cautiously but with a smile. "I guess you're new to the world like I used to be, but you have to live cautiously."
"I can see that." The memory of that monster was still fresh in my mind. "If you guess you don't mind, why are guys in a place like this?"
"We are divers. One of many that travel out of safe zones to learn the unknown or find treasure."
"Bunch of unlucky ones at that." Varrick will wave his hand missing a finger.
"We are not that unlucky. I view us doing better than most."
A bit of my memory of past being in a dungeon in the past creeps up, just like this walking to some sort of goal and just talking about things. But those images don't last long.
"We are here," Ryder said in front of a door that was different. It was an orange door that looked more like a security door than an apartment door. "Ladies first"
I was a bit confused by that comment but I followed DU inside. The feeling of relief could be felt as I entered the room. It was like the other apartments almost but cleaner and full of supplies along with equipment and objects I had never seen before. When everyone was inside the safe room and door locked. After signing a notebook a smile came on Ryder's face.
"Good thing you're not a monster. I told you two this time my gut was right about this one."
Varrick replied, "That's what you said about the last one and it wreaked the last safe room."
"Come on, it was just that one time."
"You two can fight over this later. This fledgling needs to get cleaned up just look at them." DU said with a smirk.
When she mentions this I look at my hand still gripping the knife tightly. Is this ok? I look back and see them chatting about something. I cleaned my knife and put it away.
DU would walk past me and grab my hand to lead me to the washroom. In front of the sliding door, I stood there.
"So the washing machine is here so throw your dirty clothes there."
I stare at it awhile tilting my head as I am not really sure how to use the metal box.
"Oh, you don't know how to use it? Um, I am pretty sure you would have spare clothes in your bags as the bag I got did have some."
I started looking through my bag and I ended up finding some spare clothing. I took it out and it was another maid outfit. Just great.
"I am not sure if you are lucky or unlucky. But let you be, just throw your dirty clothes into the washing machine and I will turn it on later. Just remember the nob with red is hot water and blue is the cold water."
"Alright," I reply. When she leaves, I undress and enter the washroom. It was somewhat similar to my old world. A nice hot shower feels so good. As I finish up I hear someone at the door.
DU opens the door. "O yeah, here is some shampoo and conditioner if you need it." She looks me up and down and puts the bottles down inside. "Sorry..." Then she closes the door and slowly walks away.
After I finish cleaning up and dressing in a new outfit I go back to the main room. DU was in a corner not facing me and both Ryder and Varrick looked like they were trying to hold in laughs.
"What is the matter?" I will ask them all.
At that moment DU got up and walked straight to me then bowed and clapped her hands. "I am so sorry. I thought you a girl."
I examined myself again. "It is not a problem, I guess I have to get us to that now."
To that answer, her smile brightens up. "So, what were you doing before you met us? You look like a new world spawn if I had to guess."
"New world spawn? What is that?"
"It is normally, someone newly reborn to this world. Like Ryder and I, where we die in another world and visit the library to gain an ability to adapt to this world."
The thoughts of the library and books come to mind. "That is what I am though the memories before that are kind of fuzzy."
"Don't worry it happens to all of us. Most of your memories will come back in time" She said as sits down on a couch.
I smile back at her as I notice that Ryder and Varrick are standing at one of the machines I saw earlier. It has now the canister is attached to it now.
I walked over to check what they were looking at and it was a large metal box with a glass screen. Behind the glass was fairy in a neat living environment. The fairy looked like she was complaining about something.
Ryder then faces me. "Oh, you probably have seen a fairy before or at least being used for this. Fairy helps us out of the safe zones. Varrick is our fairy keeper. But it doesn't look like Emberly is still not happy about what we did earlier."
"Unlike you, Emberly and I don't like taking risks unless we need to." Varrick gives Ryder of disagreement.
"It was for a good cause"
"Yeah, yeah, keep saying that."
Ryder will walk off into another room. Noticed the whole time that Emberly was staring at me for a while now. The moment our eyes meet she dashes off.
"Don't be that way Emberly. Everything ended up alright in the end."
With that, I went to the couch and sat.
Ryder from another room. "Make yourself at home we may be here for a day or two."
