Overview
False Zones are corrupted or Echo-mimicked shelters that imitate the calm and familiarity of a genuine Safe Zone. They may resemble a known outpost, an ordinary room, an old home, or a place tied to a Diver's memories.
Their danger begins with the belief that the journey is finally over. Exhausted travelers lower their guard, stop checking their surroundings, and accept the shelter before understanding what they have entered.
Appearance and Behavior
A False Zone can appear stable at first. Its familiarity may be more persuasive than an obvious promise of protection: a recognizable room or comforting detail can make a stranger's shelter feel trustworthy.
That appearance does not provide the protection of a true Safe Zone. Once the trap activates, the refuge reveals itself as part of the surrounding danger. False Zones are associated with Echo behavior, using emotional memory and imitation to draw people inside.
Detection
Fairies may sense route distortions, false exits, or unnatural stillness before their companions notice anything wrong. A fairy's refusal to enter a shelter is a warning worth investigating.
No single appearance establishes authenticity. Familiar surroundings and a sudden feeling of relief are reasons to investigate the shelter, rather than proof that it is safe.
Survival Considerations
- Assess an unfamiliar shelter before settling in or separating from companions.
- Pay attention to fairy behavior and inconsistencies in the route.
- Treat a place that imitates personal memories with particular caution.
- Do not assume that every False Zone uses the same trigger or trap.
Current Understanding
False Zones are a recognized threat, but their exact mechanisms vary or remain poorly understood. Their relationship to anomalies, Echoes, and individual Nodes makes them difficult to reduce to one reliable escape rule.
