Codex Entry

Fuze

A chaotic demolition ghoul whose explosions solve problems, create worse ones, and somehow leave her laughing in the wreckage.

Overview

If entropy had a best friend, it would probably be her.

Fuze is a demolitionist, upper ghoul, and walking bad decision who treats explosions like punctuation: loud, frequent, and strangely expressive. Once human, now something harder to classify, she walks the line between brilliance and breakdown with a grin full of shrapnel.

Her laughter carries through battlefields like the warning before detonation.

Fuze is reckless, loud, greedy for excitement, and nearly impossible to predict. She survives through regeneration, spite, caffeine, and the voice in her head that keeps making bets no sane person would accept.

Her creed is simple:

If it cannot be fixed, blow it up and build something funnier from the wreckage.

Fuze is not cruel in the clean, deliberate sense. She is chaos with a conscience, a demolition ghoul who will lie, steal, fight dirty, eat what she has to, and force mutual destruction if cornered. But when a friend is in danger, she will burn down the city around them and act surprised when people call that excessive.

Appearance

Fuze has sharp, light-red hair cut in a hime-style frame around her face, with the back tied into a short, messy ponytail. Her eyes are ringed with exhaustion and mischief, giving her a constant half-awake, half-smiling look.

She wears heavy scavenged combat armor inspired by old military assault gear, but rebuilt through years of repairs, burns, and stolen parts. The plating is scorched, mismatched, and marked with hazard stripes, tally marks, and handwritten warnings that may or may not be jokes.

Military goggles usually rest on her head or hang around her neck. One lens is cracked and patched with a tiny sticker she refuses to remove.

Beneath the armor, she wears a sleeveless black turtleneck faded by smoke, blood, and chemical stains. Fingerless gloves cover her hands, though the fingertips are often burned, bandaged, or stained with explosive residue.

A tool-heavy belt wraps around her waist, loaded with pouches, detonators, wires, flash grenades, plastic explosives, emergency snacks, and devices labeled with names no professional would approve.

She carries a trusty SMG, a compact rocket launcher, and a chipped combat axe etched with crude explosive runes along its edge.

She is almost always flipping a detonator cap open and shut.

Personality

Explosively loyal. Recklessly brave. Emotionally unstable.

Fuze acts like the world’s funniest apocalypse is happening around her and she is the only one who understands the punchline. She is allergic to boredom, hostile toward waiting, and deeply offended by stealth unless the stealth ends in something exploding.

She hides pain behind jokes and turns trauma into punchlines before anyone can ask what actually happened. When the voice in her head starts making bets, Fuze usually listens just long enough to make the situation worse.

Despite her chaos, Fuze has a core of surprising morality. She values loyalty, hates betrayal, and lights up when something broken works again, even if it explodes two seconds later.

She is laid-back until someone threatens her friends.

Then the blast radius becomes a negotiation.

Abilities / Combat Style

Upper Ghoul Regeneration

Fuze is an upper ghoul, giving her extreme physical durability and rapid regeneration. Wounds close quickly, damaged tissue rebuilds, and injuries that would kill ordinary fighters often only slow her down.

Severe damage can still overwhelm her for a time, but stopping Fuze usually requires more than simply destroying part of her body.

She has tested this more often than anyone recommends.

Explosive Expertise

Fuze is an expert in improvised and military-grade demolitions. She can build bombs, traps, charges, and unstable devices from scavenged materials, broken weapons, and things most people would not recognize as components.

Her explosive work is technically brilliant and professionally horrifying.

She understands blast angles, pressure triggers, shaped charges, misdirection, and how to turn “that should not explode” into “why is it counting down?”

Rocket-Thruster Combat

Fuze uses compact rocket-thruster bursts to reposition, launch herself through danger, crash into enemies, or escape situations that were probably her fault.

Her movement style is reckless, evasive, and difficult to predict. She does not always dodge attacks so much as detonate herself out of their path.

Corpse Consumption

As a ghoul, Fuze can consume corpses or body parts to restore energy and repair tissue integrity. The process appears instinctive rather than malicious, though it is unsettling to witness.

If her body is already healed, the excess energy may restore deeper reserves.

Fuze treats this as normal.

Most people do not.

Voice Bet

Fuze carries a voice in her head that seems to know too much and loves making bets. Whether the voice was created before her transformation, during an operation, or as a side effect of her ghoul state remains unknown.

The voice challenges her, tempts her, and rewards successful risks. Fuze does not always obey it, but she listens more often than she admits.

A bad sign in combat is Fuze suddenly grinning and muttering:

“Bet.”

Blast Resistance

Fuze has partial resistance to explosions and concussive force, especially her own. Heat, shrapnel, and impact can still scar her, tear her open, or knock her down.

She calls those marks autographs.

Reactive Instincts

Fuze acts faster than thought when under pressure. Her reflexes sharpen in danger, making her evasive, unpredictable, and difficult to pin down.

This instinctive combat sense pairs badly with her impulsiveness. She often survives situations because she reacts before anyone, including herself, understands the plan.

Known History

Fuze was once human before becoming an upper ghoul. The exact circumstances of that transformation remain unclear, though scattered records connect her to military operations, explosive incidents, and dangerous organizations specializing in firearms and demolitions.

At one point, she was associated with the Rift Rippers, a group known for expertise in firearms and explosives. Her talent with weapons, traps, and demolition work made her useful, though her ghoul nature, random actions, and love of explosions made her difficult to work with for long.

Hex later found Fuze near death during a mission. Even at death’s door, Fuze reportedly made a cheeky remark about the situation. Hex, amused or impressed, helped her survive and eventually brought her into her squad.

Since then, Fuze has worked on and off under Hex’s command. Whether this makes Hex her boss, handler, partner, or favorite source of terrible ideas depends on who is asked.

Fuze also has history with Mayhem, who considers her the kind of bad influence that cannot be unfollowed.

Current Role

Fuze currently operates as one of Hex’s most chaotic field assets. She gathers information, plants explosives, steals materials, salvages technology, and turns simple jobs into emergency evacuations with alarming consistency.

Her idea of “intel gathering” may involve blowing up a building, removing someone’s arm, or returning with a bag that should not be dripping.

Despite this, she is effective.

Fuze is the kind of person Hex can point at a problem when subtlety has failed, or when subtlety was never the plan.

Role in the Story

Fuze represents the aftermath of survival when survival did not leave the person whole.

She is funny, dangerous, and easy to underestimate until the reader remembers that her jokes are built on trauma, her body heals because it has been broken too many times, and her best solution to fear is usually detonation.

For Vestige Soul, Fuze is an early lesson that allies in Postremo Limine are not always safe, moral, or stable. Someone can help you, save you, laugh with you, and still carry a severed arm in a bag like it is part of the job.

For Hex’s crew, Fuze is the blast no one can fully control.

For Mayhem, she is old trouble wearing a familiar grin.

Relationships

Hex: Fuze works under Hex’s command on and off. Hex gives her targets, structure, and enough freedom to be useful. Fuze gives Hex explosions, chaos, and problems that occasionally solve bigger problems.

Mayhem: A former associate with old crew energy. Mayhem knows Fuze is dangerous, ridiculous, and useful. She also knows that getting dragged into Fuze’s messes is usually unavoidable once contact has been made.

Vestige Soul: A new face pulled into Fuze’s chaos. Fuze’s first impression teaches Vestige that “ally” does not mean “safe.”

Doctor Mari: Mari once saved Fuze when she should have been erased. This act changed both of their paths, though Fuze’s later return to Hex’s world complicates whatever Mari hoped to build.

The Voice: An unknown presence in Fuze’s head that makes bets, pushes risk, and may reward successful chaos. Fuze treats it like an annoying roommate, but its true nature remains unresolved.

Related Notes

Fuze loves meat and explosions.

She dislikes waiting and stealth.

She is known to sell salvaged Diver tech, bomb blueprints, and spare limbs, sometimes her own.

Her armor plates include tally marks for favorite explosions.

Her detonator-cap flipping is both a nervous tic and a warning sign.

People avoid teaming with Fuze because of her ghoul nature, unpredictable actions, and habit of making every plan louder.

Fuze is not harmless comic relief.

She is what happens when comic relief has a rocket launcher, regeneration, and no fear of the blast radius.
