Overview
Xyndra is a Dark Elf noble and sorcerer whose attempt to overthrow an oppressive ruling structure ended in exile. Her coup unfolded within the largest Dark Elf Safe Zones, challenging the order into which she had been raised.
The plot's discovery led to the execution of her closest allies and forced her to flee. Branded a traitor and pursued by Dark Elf assassins, Xyndra survives through magical skill, concealment, and constant vigilance.
She still wants a different future for her people. The failure of her rebellion has made the cost of pursuing it impossible to ignore.
Noble Upbringing
Born into a ruling family, Xyndra was prepared for a place within its political and arcane hierarchy. Her education combined sorcery with the manipulation and calculation expected of someone raised near power.
Access to a secret collection of banned texts exposed her to ideas beyond those approved by her family. What she read encouraged her to imagine a society less dependent on deceit, betrayal, and the interests of its rulers.
That conviction placed her in opposition to people whose authority she had once been expected to inherit or serve.
The Failed Coup
Xyndra became a central participant in a planned overthrow of the ruling order, including members of her own family. The conspiracy was uncovered before it could establish the future its participants intended.
Her allies were executed, and her escape left her carrying both responsibility for the attempt and grief for those who did not survive it. Her family regarded her actions as a disgrace, while the authorities she challenged treated her as a traitor.
Escape did not end the consequences of her rebellion. The people she challenged remain a threat, and the loss of her allies continues to shape how she understands the attempt.
Sorcery and Survival
Xyndra is an accomplished practitioner of arcane magic. She brings intelligence and close attention to magical problems, and uses sorcery to disguise her appearance and evade those hunting her.
Her education gives her a foundation for understanding difficult spellwork and interpreting unfamiliar magical material. The broader role of study and specialization is described in Magic and Mana.
Disguise helps her remain at large, but exile still demands caution. She cannot openly rely on the position or protection her family once offered.
Personality
Xyndra presents herself with confidence and reserve. She finds it easier to demonstrate competence than to explain her fear, grief, or uncertainty.
Her noble upbringing continues to influence how she approaches other people. Even while seeking reform, she can be impatient with disagreement and overly certain of her own judgment. Learning to share responsibility is part of the change she must consider in herself.
She journals to process her experiences and preserve her observations. When nervous, she taps her fingers against nearby surfaces; when absorbed in her work, she sometimes snaps them without noticing.
Motivation
Xyndra wants to challenge the structures that made her rebellion necessary and build a better future for her people. She also wants to atone for the consequences of her failed attempt.
Her unresolved task is deciding how to pursue those ambitions while taking seriously the judgment and safety of the people who would share the risk.
