Malformed Revenants

Failed resurrection victims bound to graves, chambers, and unfinished rituals

Overview

Malformed Revenants are victims of failed resurrection found within the Catacombs. They remain bound to particular chambers, graves, or unfinished rituals.

That bond distinguishes their recorded condition from the broader population of Zombies. Their existence is associated with an incomplete return, rather than merely a body continuing to move.

Places of Encounter

The Catacombs contain old resurrection chambers with broken tables, bone restraints, and incomplete bodies that sometimes react to a living presence. Failed resurrection remnants are also reported within the lower caverns of Beast Hollow.

These locations provide context for encountering a Revenant, but do not establish that every responsive body or failed ritual produces the same kind of entity.

The Unfinished Bond

A Revenant's connection to a grave, room, or ritual is central to its description. The nature of that connection remains poorly understood. Its existence does not establish a universal boundary, release condition, or method of completing the interrupted resurrection.

Current Understanding

The Catacombs' repeating reanimation and residual soul corruption complicate investigation. No single level of intelligence, hostility, or physical ability has been confirmed for all Malformed Revenants.

Records should distinguish what an individual Revenant does from assumptions based on other undead. Destroying a body, completing a ritual, and freeing a bound victim cannot yet be treated as equivalent outcomes.
