Dark Elves

Origin Type: Cracked / Dumped
Known Regions: Shadowed Metrozones, Sublevel Ruins, Fragmented Noble Enclaves
Affiliation: Varies by House or exile status

Overview

Dark Elves are a hierarchical, matriarchal, and often xenophobic race who trace their roots to fragmented noble empires from beyond Genesis. Though their worlds have collapsed, many of their Houses still operate—either as isolated enclaves or fallen power centers obsessed with reclaiming lost status.

In Genesis, Dark Elves are often seen as outliers—too proud to beg, too ambitious to fade. Many have adapted by forming rogue Houses, trading magical power for influence, and forging dangerous pacts with entities they would have once enslaved.

A fallen noble still wants a throne—even if it’s made of rubble and ghosts.

Physical Traits

  • Skin tones: Ebony, obsidian brown, or deep umber
  • Hair: White, silver, pale platinum
  • Eyes: Commonly violet, amethyst, or glowing indigo
  • Heightened agility and night-vision reflexes
  • Some bear tattoos or living arcane markings tied to House rites, contracts, or forbidden spells

Society

Dark Elf society revolves around matriarchal Houses, with bloodline purity, magical strength, and ambition forming the pillars of status.

  • Female nobles are often born with enhanced magical affinity
  • Males are frequently relegated to support roles unless they demonstrate rare magical talent or military genius
  • Internal coups, assassinations, and ritual challenges are common within Houses

Genesis has shattered many Houses, but the need to rule remains intact.

Culture

  • Dark Elves believe they are inherently superior to other races—an ideology rooted in pre-collapse dogma
  • Advancement within their House is a sacred struggle, and failure is often punished with exile, mutation, or soul-bond servitude
  • Exiled Dark Elves are especially dangerous—they have something to prove and nothing to lose

Magic Preference

  • Magic is not just a tool—it is a birthright and symbol of dominance
  • Noble-born Dark Elves have a particular affinity for shadowweaving, binding rituals, and planar interference spells
  • Technology is viewed as crude and dishonorable—except when repurposed through sorcery (e.g., powering artifacts with a broken diver core)

Related Notes

  • Recovered Genesis reports list at least six active Dark Elf sub-Houses, with varying levels of threat and diplomacy
  • Rogue House factions are known to bargain with Broker Wolves
  • Some Diver Teams actively avoid hiring Dark Elf spellcasters due to "contractual" complications
