Doctor Mari

Title: The Hero Believer — “Founder of the Hero Rehabilitation Program”
Race: Human (Shield-Blessed)
Function Role: Public Healer / Faith-Based Protector
Affiliation: Independent (Hero Rehabilitation Program)
Status: Public Figure / Dangerously Influential

Profile

Doctor Mari is a public hero to some. A delusional liability to others.
To herself? She’s just someone waiting for the real hero to arrive—and patch this broken world the way she couldn't.

A well-known government-trained medic, Mari once served in sanctioned Diver operations. But after saving Fuse, an unstable anomaly marked for erasure, she broke protocol and founded something radical:

A place where even the monstrous, violent, or broken could learn to be heroes.

Her Hero Rehabilitation Program is part clinic, part training center, part ideological cult of one. Most think it’s a bad joke. But she has a shield no one can break, a following she didn’t ask for, and a habit of turning enemies into allies—if only temporarily.

And when the program fails—and it often does—she still believes. That’s the most dangerous part.

“Anyone can be saved. If they want to be. If they don’t… maybe I believe for them.”

Appearance

Lab coat worn like armor, streaked with field bandages and antique anime pins
Wields a revolver she claims is “just in case,” though it’s always loaded
Her Divine Shield forms as a radiant barrier between her and the world—shaped like a starburst, it glows harder the more she believes
Eyes wide with hope, even when the world is burning

Personality

Idealistic. Irresponsibly hopeful. Hero-worshipping to the core.

Doctor Mari quotes anime battle speeches like gospel and still tears up when talking about old Diver heroes—some of whom are long dead or discredited. She sees potential in everyone, refuses to abandon the fallen, and gets emotionally attached far too easily.

She has no patience for cynicism, and her belief system is so intense it sometimes manifests as supernatural force. She truly thinks a hero will come to save them all—and might be trying to create one if they don’t.

Abilities

Divine Shield
A barrier of faith and force that protects her and allies. Becomes stronger near people she believes in. Nearly indestructible when defending someone she sees as a “hero.”

The Gate
A reality-breaking invocation—summons a "hero" from beyond Genesis when she is overwhelmed. These summoned entities vary wildly in form, function, and stability. The more desperate her belief, the more unpredictable the result.

Hero’s Light
Can emit a field of radiant morale. Allies under its influence strike harder, recover faster, and resist despair. Works best when she’s shouting dramatic lines.

Fight On, Hero
Single-target healing that becomes massively more effective if the target shares a Guardian, Obsession, or Redeemable trait.

Related Notes

  • Her first “rehabilitated hero,” Fuse, now works under Hex—an unpredictable allegiance that Mari believes “is just a phase.”
  • Several anomalies, ex-mercenaries, and former Diver rejects have passed through her program—most returned to chaos.
  • Despite failures, her public image grows; some Safe Zones view her clinic as sacred. Others fear her influence and the potential damage of The Gate.
