The Eternal Order’s Citadel

The Eternal Order’s headquarters and rebirth center, a Node maintained by its seated leader

Overview

The Eternal Order’s Citadel is the headquarters of the Eternal Order and the center of its limited soul-preservation system. The citadel is itself a Node, maintained by a Relic whose operation depends on the Order’s seated leader.

Successful Ethereal Coin transfers bring members’ continuing souls here for examination. The citadel also holds the equipment used for rebirth and the Coins containing souls that have failed the corruption check.

The Seated Leader

The leader must remain seated in a chair for the citadel Node to function. When the leader leaves the chair, the Node stops working. Its continued operation therefore depends on that person’s presence.

Another person can take over only after the previous occupant has died. Leaving the chair makes the citadel inactive, but does not by itself allow a replacement to assume the role.

Return and Rebirth

A member who dies while carrying an Ethereal Coin may return here if the citadel is active and the Node where they die does not prevent the transfer. A successful transfer causes the Coin to generate at the citadel with the member’s continuing soul.

A trained member then examines the soul for corruption. If it passes the check, the Coin is placed in a machine and the person is reborn into their old body. Temporary memory loss may follow. The process preserves the continuing soul, while the corruption caused by repeated rebirth remains an unresolved danger.

Stored Souls

Souls that fail inspection remain in their Coins and are placed in storage instead of proceeding to rebirth. Stored souls are not conscious. Their preservation does not establish a cure, a recovery timetable, or a guaranteed future return to life.

Research and Personnel

The citadel receives recovered Grimoires and Mystic Tomes and artifacts for study and cataloging. Guarded outposts serve as temporary holding places before recovery teams’ finds reach the headquarters.

Luna Noir, the Crimson Director, oversees intelligence, strategy, and operations beneath the seated leader. Her operational authority is distinct from the role that maintains the citadel through the Relic’s chair.

Nysa Moonpetal supports the Order’s administration and is trained to examine souls for corruption before rebirth.

When the Citadel Is Inactive

The Coin system does not activate for a member who dies while the citadel is inactive. That newly dead member cannot be brought back through the inactive system.

Returned Coins float in the space outside the Nodes while the citadel is inactive. This concerns Coins already carrying returned souls; it is separate from a new death for which soul transfer never activated.

The Order’s Larger Purpose

The citadel supports a functioning but incomplete local rebirth system. The Eternal Order ultimately seeks to overcome soul corruption and create a miniature Soul Cycle within Postremo Limine for everyone. Its present system remains restricted by Coin production, membership, the active citadel, and the condition of each returning soul.
