Diver

The scouts, scavengers, and field operatives who leave Safe Zones to recover supplies, map unstable regions, and survive where the world breaks.

Overview

Divers are the frontline scavengers, scouts, and field operatives of Postremo Limine. They are individuals or teams who willingly leave the shelter of Safe Zones to enter corrupted zones, unstable nodes, unknown levels, and collapsing architecture in search of supplies, relics, knowledge, LimiCore, or lost souls.

They are not an official military. They are not always heroes. They are the people who go where no one else will, and most of them do not come back the same.

Definition

Divers are the general term for people who travel beyond Safe Zone protection and enter unstable territory for work, survival, exploration, recovery, or profit.

Most professional Divers carry specialized gear, protective equipment, relics, and a bonded fairy housed within a dedicated device. Many Divers possess Library Relics, as those without a soul-bound relic tend to have much lower survival rates.

Not every Diver belongs to the Diver Guild. Independent Divers, faction-based Divers, and desperate survivors may all be called Divers if they operate beyond the safety of stabilized territory.

History

The term “Diver” became common after Safe Zones were established throughout Postremo Limine. As civilization gathered behind barriers, someone still had to enter the unstable world beyond them.

The Diver Guild formed around the same era, creating standards for contracts, classifications, reports, and survival protocols. However, guild membership is not required to be recognized as a Diver.

Most major conflicts, discoveries, recoveries, and disasters in Postremo Limine involve Divers in some form.

Role in Society

Divers are one of the major pillars of life in Postremo Limine. Their work supports Safe Zones through resource gathering, relic recovery, exploration, mapping, rescue operations, LimiCore extraction, and field reports.

Some Divers specialize in specific roles. LimiCore extractor Divers harvest raw LimiCore from unstable nodes. Recovery Divers retrieve lost supplies, bodies, relics, or missing teams. Mapping Divers chart unstable regions, though maps often become unreliable as nodes shift over time.

Divers may also be required to handle encounters with entities, hostile factions, corrupted environments, or unexplained anomalies.

Because of this, most Divers develop mixed skill sets. Combat ability, navigation, survival knowledge, relic handling, fairy coordination, and anomaly awareness are all considered valuable. A Diver’s gear may include both specialized equipment and relic-based tools.

Common Classifications

Divers are generally grouped into three broad categories.

  • Freelance Divers operate independently or in small self-managed teams.
  • Guild Divers work under the Diver Guild and usually follow formal contracts, rankings, and reporting standards.
  • Faction-Based Divers serve a specific faction, Safe Zone authority, military group, religious order, or private organization.

Risks

The mortality rate among Divers is extremely high. Many Divers are more likely to disappear than die cleanly.

Constant exposure to fractured time, unstable space, anomalous memory, and unfiltered emotion takes a heavy toll. Even experienced Divers may suffer mental strain, memory distortion, personality shifts, trauma loops, or soul-level contamination.

To survive as a Diver is not always to remain unchanged.

Cultural Impact

Divers hold a complicated place in Postremo Limine culture. They are admired, feared, exploited, and romanticized.

Many children grow up wanting to become Divers, seeing them as symbols of freedom, strength, and adventure. Adults often know better. To most Safe Zones, Divers are both necessary and expendable: the ones who bring back what society needs, even if society would rather not think about the cost.

A successful Diver can gain wealth, status, relics, and influence. A failed Diver may leave behind nothing but a broken fairy device and an unfinished contract.
