Arrival and the Reset

Changed bodies, fragmented memories, and a new beginning in Postremo Limine

Overview

Arrival in Postremo Limine changes a being’s starting conditions. All beings undergo the same process. The main variable between individuals is how much memory they lose.

Former outside powers and advantages are stripped away, while knowledge-based skills mostly remain. Bodies may change, mana potential is randomized, and every arrival receives starting supplies.

Arrival and the Soul Cycle

A soul can fall out of the normal Soul Cycle through displacement, damage, or a cosmic error. Arrival in Postremo Limine is an interruption of ordinary rebirth.

In normal rebirth, prior memories are archived. In Postremo Limine, memories may fragment, scatter, or distort. Some fragments may become echoes or attach to Nodes, relics, entities, dreams, or environmental phenomena. The amount of memory loss differs from person to person.

Powers, Knowledge, and Racial Traits

AspectEffect of arrival
Former outside powersFormer powers, divine favor, and artificial enhancements are stripped away.
Knowledge-based skillsMostly remain. Retaining skills does not establish that all personal memories remain intact.
Racial traitsBelong to the race the person has after arrival.
Mana potentialRandomized on arrival; former potential should not be assumed to carry over.

Species and racial traits must be considered together. Traits correspond to the race the person is after arrival. The Humans entry describes one population affected by these rules. Magic and Mana explains how personal mana works and grows after arrival.

Bodies and Physical Changes

Species usually does not change. When a change occurs, it is more likely to involve a human becoming another species.

AspectArrival rule
AgeAll ages are set within a younger age range.
Injuries and scarsNo injuries remain on arrival, although scars may remain.
AppearanceMay vary.
GenderHas a slight chance of changing.

Starter Bags

All beings receive a starter bag. Its supplies include:

SupplyAmount
FoodThree days’ worth.
WaterOne week’s worth.

These supplies apply to all arrivals. They are separate from any item chosen in the Library.

Arrival Locations and Initial Safety

Most arrivals are sent to a more stable Node. All begin at a safe distance from danger.

Stability does not guarantee safety. The initial distance from danger does not establish that the arrival point is a protected settlement or that the surrounding Node will remain safe.

The Library

Certain souls encounter the Library before fully entering Postremo Limine. There, a soul may choose one item, which becomes a soul-bound Library Relic.

This does not establish that every arrival passes through the Library. Its transition mechanics remain unknown, and no one has found a path back to it.

Vestige Soul’s Documented Arrival

In Chapter 1: The Beginning, Vestige Soul reaches the Library after death. He is told that his strength and abilities have been nullified and his form has changed.

He discovers that he is now a Dark Elf, with a changed complexion and height, and finds himself wearing different clothing. He chooses the red-and-black book and receives a backpack containing basic survival supplies, including a knife.

After leaving the Library, he awakens in an apartment room in Chapter 2: Trial by Fire. His experience documents a species change and a Library encounter; those particular events should not be treated as the route taken by every arrival.
