Overview
Some anomalies scream.
Some leave trails of ash, blood, or entropy.
Emi and Lily giggle.
Together, Emi and Lily are infamous across several Safe Zones for doing something worse than killing: they ruin morale, break trust, and make people destroy themselves before the real fight begins.
Emi is a clever chaos agent with a twisted sense of fun. She lies as easily as breathing, slips into groups as an ally or bystander, and finds exactly the right words to make people doubt each other. She has a particular obsession with “hero types,” taking special delight in watching the hopeful, righteous, and self-sacrificing fall apart.
Lily is her shadowbound blade-familiar: shy, childlike, and lethally loyal. She hides in corners, ruins, and dim spaces, rarely speaking unless Emi praises her or gives an order. In darkness, Lily becomes terrifyingly difficult to track. In bright light, she weakens.
Emi breaks the room.
Lily kills what survives the dark.
Appearance
Emi
Emi is stylishly disheveled, always smiling like she knows something everyone else missed. Her clothing is mismatched but deliberate, layered with charm bracelets, stolen accessories, and pieces of gear taken from people who underestimated her.
She wears a coat rumored to have belonged to a Diver who died after trusting her.
Small tools, knives, poisons, candies, and distractions are hidden in absurd places across her outfit. Emi is almost always chewing something: gum, candy, or the edge of a secret she has not decided whether to share yet.
Her grin is her most recognizable feature.
It rarely means anything good.
Lily
Lily appears as a pale, almost porcelain-skinned childlike figure with heavy shadows beneath her eyes. She often looks shy, lost, or half-asleep until the moment she moves.
Her knife is always near, but rarely visible until too late.
Her clothes resemble a child’s fantasy of a soldier crossed with a funeral doll: soft shapes, dark edges, and small details that feel almost playful until one notices the blood.
Lily must remain near Emi emotionally and metaphysically. Distance weakens her focus, while praise from Emi sharpens her into something far more dangerous.
Personality
Emi
Manipulative. Energetic. Brilliantly wicked.
Emi treats people like instruments, stories, and toys with predictable breaking points. She does not need to stab someone when she can make their friend do it for her.
She spreads chaos because she finds it fun. She lies to start fights, sabotages hero squads, destabilizes leadership structures, and watches the fallout with delighted curiosity. Her cruelty is not always loud. Sometimes it is a quiet suggestion at the perfect moment.
She is arrogant, impulsive, greedy, and overconfident enough to believe she can always talk her way out.
The worst part is that she is often right.
Lily
Shy. Obedient. Lethal.
Without Emi, Lily becomes quiet, uncertain, and almost lost. With Emi nearby, she becomes sharp, focused, and terrifyingly obedient.
She loves praise. She loves gum. She hates bright light.
Lily does not think in complicated moral terms. Emi is safe. Emi is right. Emi points, and Lily cuts.
This makes Lily frightening, but also tragic. She is not a mastermind. She is the knife someone taught to smile when praised.
Abilities / Combat Style
Emi
Master Manipulator
Emi thrives in complex social environments. She reads insecurity, jealousy, hope, guilt, and ambition with frightening speed.
Her preferred attack is not physical. It is conversational. A rumor here. A half-truth there. A secret revealed to the wrong person at the worst possible time.
Groups exposed to Emi often begin collapsing before they realize they have been attacked.
Art of Disappearance
Emi can vanish temporarily during chaos, distraction, or confusion. This is not always true invisibility in the magical sense. Sometimes it is misdirection, timing, and knowing exactly when everyone else will look away.
By the time someone realizes she is gone, the damage has usually already started.
Chaos Trigger
Emi has an unnatural instinct for what lie, insult, accusation, or revelation will start a fight. She does not need to control minds.
She only needs to find the fracture that was already there.
This makes her especially dangerous around hero teams, command structures, fragile alliances, and people who believe their group is above betrayal.
Lily
Shadowbound Assassin
Lily can hide inside shadows and move between dim spaces. She cannot fully fight while hidden, but she can emerge from shadow to stab, slash, shield, or form semi-solid shadow weapons.
In dim light or darkness, Lily fights at full strength. In very dark environments, her power increases. In pitch-black conditions, she becomes far more dangerous, though she requires Emi’s direction to attack effectively.
Light/Darkness Requirement
Lily’s combat power changes depending on lighting conditions.
In bright light, her accuracy and effectiveness drop. In normal light, she is weakened but still dangerous. In darkness, she becomes faster, sharper, and harder to track.
This makes lighting one of the only reliable ways to suppress her.
Dark Domain
Lily can create an area of magical darkness for a short duration. Within this domain, vision is disrupted, shadows deepen, and Lily’s movement becomes far harder to predict.
The first moments of Dark Domain are especially dangerous, as enemies often lose track of her position before realizing she has already moved.
Shadow Heart Strike
Once per day, Lily can perform a finishing strike in complete darkness. During this attack, she becomes a killing blade aimed at whoever Emi has marked with a glance or command.
The strike is extremely dangerous, but dependent on darkness, timing, and Emi’s direction.
Shadow Blades and Shadow Shield
Lily can shape shadows into semi-solid blades for area attacks or defensive barriers. These techniques are strongest in dim or dark environments and unreliable under intense light.
Her shadow shield is useful for protecting herself or Emi, though Lily is more effective as an ambusher than a defender.
Known History
Emi is believed to have come from Japan after causing too much trouble in her original environment. Records suggest she left behind a trail of lies, betrayals, unnecessary conflicts, and ruined relationships before seeking a new playground.
Postremo Limine gave her exactly that.
She adapted quickly to Safe Zones, Diver camps, and unstable settlements, slipping into social groups and testing how easily they could be broken. Her favorite targets are hero types: the hopeful, the self-sacrificing, the morally certain, and anyone who believes friendship is stronger than fear.
Lily’s origin is less clear.
She appears bound to Emi as a shadow-familiar, assassin, or dependent anomaly. She is childlike in manner, loves praise, and obeys Emi with near-total devotion. Whether Lily was created, found, corrupted, or rescued by Emi remains unknown.
Whatever the truth, the two are now treated as a paired threat.
Separating them is difficult.
Surviving them together is worse.
Known Behaviors
Emi often infiltrates small squads by posing as an ally, victim, bystander, or harmless nuisance.
She prefers to destabilize a group before violence begins.
Lily is rarely noticed until the lights fail or the shadows move.
Most witnesses initially describe Lily as “a weird child following Emi.”
That assumption has killed people.
Together, Emi and Lily have been blamed for multiple Safe Zone collapses caused by internal betrayal, leadership failure, and sudden violence between former allies.
They do not fight fair.
They do not need to.
Role in the Story
Emi and Lily represent the cruelty of treating people like stories.
Emi sees heroes, leaders, friends, and families as predictable narratives waiting for the right twist. She wants to know which lie makes the healer snap, which secret makes the knight doubt, and which betrayal makes the leader stop believing in their own team.
Lily is the shadow of that cruelty: quiet, obedient, and waiting for permission.
Together, they are best used as recurring antagonists, Safe Zone destabilizers, or anti-hero-party hazards. They do not need to destroy the world. They only need to make a safe place stop being safe.
Kazuko is passive social entropy.
Emi is active social sabotage.
Lily is the consequence waiting in the dark.
