The Holy Order of the Divine Light

A militant faith of beacons, purification, and obedience, devoted to cleansing Postremo Limine for the Holy Maiden’s descent.

Overview

The Holy Order of the Divine Light is one of the oldest recorded faith-based factions in Postremo Limine. They teach that Postremo Limine is a world of corruption, fractured by sin, and that it must be purged before the Holy Maiden of Light can descend and restore the natural order.

Origin / History

No one knows when the Holy Order of the Divine Light truly began or what came before it. Even the Order’s own records are incomplete, fractured by lost archives, destroyed sanctuaries, and centuries of conflict.

Their original headquarters were destroyed long ago, taking much of their early history with it. What remains are scattered accounts of crusades, purges, failed conversions, and attempts to impose divine order across unstable zones.

Whether the Order itself knows the truth of its origin is uncertain. Some believe the highest ranks guard that knowledge. Others believe even The Constant inherited only fragments.

Doctrine

The Order maintains Divine Light Beacons in several Safe Zones, where nanolux preach purification through obedience, prayer, and sacrifice. They believe these acts bring souls closer to the Holy Maiden of Light and prepare the world for her return.

To the Order, Postremo Limine itself is corrupted — a fractured state that must be cleansed before souls can return to the natural order. Anomaly-touched beings, soulbinders, corrupted Diver technology, unstable entities, and those who stray too far from the “clean cycle” are seen as obstacles to the Holy Maiden’s descent.

Most members of the Order possess divine-like power, which they claim flows directly from the Holy Maiden of Light.

Structure

The Order operates under a strict hierarchy.

  • The Constant — supreme spiritual and political leader.
  • The Illuminance — ruling council that advises The Constant and elects their successor.
  • Luxen — regional commanders, beacon masters, and high-ranking clergy.
  • Lux — senior priests, officers, scholars, and field leaders.
  • Microlux — trained members, missionaries, scribes, guards, and beacon staff.
  • Nanolux — initiates, low clergy, attendants, and public-facing preachers.

The Constant is believed to be the chosen vessel of the Holy Maiden of Light, a belief that reinforces the Order’s authority and binds its followers beneath a single divine will.

Public Operations

Day to day, the Order spreads its doctrine throughout Safe Zones and offers aid to travelers across Postremo Limine. Zones under their influence often contain Divine Light Beacons, which serve as temples, shelters, command centers, and recruitment hubs.

These Beacons provide food, education, lodging, and protection to those willing to accept the Order’s teachings. To the desperate, they can seem like salvation.

Beyond public aid and conversion, the Order assists with Safe Zone defense, relic recovery, entity hunting, and search-and-rescue efforts.

S.C.D.

Behind the polished sermons lies the Order’s militant wing: the S.C.D., short for Suppress, Contain, Destroy.

This elite unit, often masked and unmarked, is responsible for hunting and eliminating anything deemed unholy. Their targets include anomaly-touched beings, soulbinders, corrupted Diver technology, hostile entities, and those who have strayed too far from the clean cycle.

Their numbers are unknown. Their reach is vast. Their silence is absolute.

Territories / Assets

Very few know the true scope of the Order’s reach. Some joke that all large Safe Zones eventually lead back to them.

Their network of Divine Light Beacons stretches across Postremo Limine, forming a vast but unstable chain of temples, shelters, outposts, and command centers. Because of the world’s shifting nature, connections between Beacons can be lost, severed, or rediscovered without warning. Yet all Beacons are said to lead back to the Central Beacon.

The strength of the S.C.D. remains unknown, but few would willingly provoke them. Over time, the Order has amassed a vast collection of relics, weapons, forbidden records, and recovered technologies.

Among their most guarded possessions is a relic known as the Holy Maiden of Light’s Spear. Whether it is truly a spear, a sealed vessel, or something far more dangerous remains unknown.

Relationship to Postremo Limine

The Order anchors unstable zones, destroys entities it deems corrupt, and provides safe haven in places where none would otherwise exist. To many travelers, a Divine Light Beacon may be the only warm bed, clean meal, or guarded wall for miles.

But their protection comes with pressure. Independent Safe Zones often feel the slow creep of their influence through charity, doctrine, defense agreements, and quiet political control.

The faction grows by maintaining order, converting followers, and fighting anything it believes could corrupt the world further.

Most dismiss them as religious fanatics, but there is something deeper behind the light they serve.
