Overview
Sister Elara is a healer and former cleric of the Holy Order of the Divine Light. Her discovery of the S.C.D. and corruption within the religious institution brought her into conflict with the authorities she had served.
Branded a heretic and cast out, Elara now seeks to expose the wrongdoing behind her exile. Her loss of trust in the Order's leadership has not erased her faith in the Holy Maiden of Light or her commitment to caring for others.
Service and Discovery
Elara entered religious service with sincere devotion. The Order gave structure to her faith and a community within which she could practice it.
Her studies and investigations brought her into contact with truths that unsettled that understanding. She learned of the S.C.D., the Order's covert Suppress, Contain, Destroy force, and discovered corruption within the wider institution.
What she found led her to question the integrity of its leadership. The faith she practiced and the conduct of those claiming its authority became increasingly difficult for her to reconcile.
Persecution and Exile
As Elara pursued the matter, the institution turned against her. She was branded a heretic, persecuted, and expelled from the temple community to which she had devoted herself.
Exile cost her an established place in the world and left her uncertain of where she could safely belong. She continues to seek the truth behind the corruption she uncovered and the treatment that followed.
Healing and Medicinal Study
Elara possesses powerful healing magic, using it to mend wounds and restore vitality. She also studies plants and herbs, collecting medicinal specimens and learning their uses in healing preparations.
Her attention to practical care is visible in small routines. She arranges supplies carefully, checks what is available, and keeps equipment organized so it can be found when needed.
The broader relationships between magical origins, study, and casting are described in Magic and Mana.
Faith and Conviction
Elara's opposition to the Holy Order's corruption exists alongside enduring belief in her deity. Her exile has forced her to judge how that belief should guide her when institutional commands and her own convictions conflict.
Compassion remains central to her conduct. She offers support to those in distress and wants her choices to reflect the faith she still considers worth practicing.
Personality
Elara is empathetic and attentive, but she struggles to assert herself. Disagreement can leave her hesitant, particularly when she fears that speaking will lead to another rejection.
She can defer too readily to others or doubt decisions she has reason to trust. Developing confidence in her own judgment is an ongoing part of her life after exile.
When anxious, she runs her fingers over her prayer beads. Their familiar rhythm provides comfort even as her relationship with the institution that once surrounded her worship has changed.
Motivation
Elara wants to expose corruption within her former Order and restore honor to her name. More personally, she wants to practice her faith through choices she can stand behind.
Her search for justice gives her a direction, while the work of healing others gives that purpose an everyday expression.
