Gas Mask Soldiers

Silent battlefield observers whose origin and allegiance remain unknown

Overview

Gas Mask Soldiers are silent humanoid figures reported within the Great War. They wear pristine gas masks and unidentifiable uniforms, observing the battlefield and recording it with unknown devices.

They rarely engage directly. Their apparent role differs from the soldiers caught in repeated charges: they watch a conflict whose other inhabitants continue fighting.

Appearance and Activity

Their masks remain conspicuously pristine amid a Node defined by mud, decay, damaged equipment, and forgotten armies. The uniforms do not establish a recognizable faction.

The devices they use have not been identified. What they record, where those records go, and whether their observations influence the battlefield remain unknown.

Theories of Origin

Existing accounts suggest several possibilities: external observers, projections connected to Divers, or agents of the Node itself. These are theories rather than confirmed identities.

There is no established connection between their activities and the command of The Captain. Sharing the same battlefield does not establish a shared allegiance.

Encounter Considerations

Rare direct engagement should not be treated as proof that an encounter is harmless. Equally, their military appearance does not establish that they behave like ordinary undead soldiers.

No confirmed motive, universal hostility pattern, or reliable means of communication has been established. Their entry records an observed presence while leaving their identity unresolved.
