Felineans

Cat-folk survivors who balance instinct, intellect, freedom, and Pride-born loyalty.

Overview

Felineans are a race of humanoid cat-folk reborn into Postremo Limine from worlds long since devoured. They are neither purely human nor beast, but a balance of intellect and instinct reborn into a world that rewards both.

When their souls manifested in this plane, they gravitated toward places of movement, warmth, and escape: cities that still hummed with life, jungles that still breathed, rooftops that still offered height, and ruins with enough shadow to vanish into.

In these fractured biomes, Felineans thrive as scouts, guides, artisans, performers, infiltrators, couriers, and survivors who walk comfortably between the civilized and the wild.

To Divers, they are graceful guides, unreliable informants, and unpredictable rivals. To themselves, they are living proof that instinct is not something to overcome. It is something to remember.

Physical Traits

Felineans usually stand between 5.5 and 6.5 feet tall. Their bodies are lithe, flexible, and built for balance, climbing, sudden movement, and quiet recovery from impact.

Their fur or fine body hair appears in shades of tan, gray, black, white, cream, rust, or mixed patterns. Stripes, spots, patches, and gradients often mark lineage, regional ancestry, or Pride identity.

Their eyes are large and reflective, with slit pupils adapted to low light and near-total darkness. Felineans can see clearly in conditions where most humanoids would be nearly blind.

Their ears are tall, expressive, and highly mobile, capable of detecting subtle changes in vibration, tone, distance, and direction. Their tails vary in length and thickness, serving as tools for balance, emotional expression, and social communication.

Felineans possess retractable claws suited for climbing, gripping, precision tasks, and close-quarters defense. Their movements are quiet by nature, and many can cross unstable terrain with almost no wasted motion.

Their voices are naturally melodic, though tone varies widely by Pride and region. Many communicate mood through purring resonance, soft trills, ear position, tail movement, and facial expression.

Most Felineans lack or have a weakened ability to taste sweetness, making rich meats, fragrant spices, fermented foods, and textured meals more culturally important than sugary foods.

Some clans display environmental mutations. Arboreal Felineans may develop elongated limbs, hooked claws, and stronger tails for canopy movement, while urban Felineans often have shorter fur, sharper hearing, and stronger echo awareness for navigating alleys, towers, and enclosed streets.

Culture

Felineans live within fluid, semi-nomadic communities called Prides. A Pride is less a rigid hierarchy and more a bonded survival network built around trust, inherited roles, and proven usefulness.

Unlike many clan-based races, Felinean Prides often avoid strict dominance structures. Internal peace is maintained through role clarity, social bonding, and mutual cooperation rather than constant rank challenges. Authority usually belongs to those best suited for a situation: the best tracker leads the hunt, the best climber leads the escape, the best negotiator handles outsiders.

Some roles are passed down through family lines, apprenticeships, or Pride memory. During combat, members often maintain specialized positions based on their strengths, such as center attackers, flank runners, rooftop watchers, wing herders, ambush breakers, or retreat callers.

Felineans coexist with the world rather than trying to conquer it. They move between wilderness and ruins, adapting to whatever terrain offers shelter, food, trade, or escape.

Urban Prides often run courier networks, data-smuggling routes, rooftop messenger lines, performance troupes, black-market contacts, and theft rings. Wild Prides may guard relic sites, forgotten temples, jungle paths, warm ruins, or hidden springs.

Their loyalty is rarely bought outright. It is earned through deed, patience, and respect.

Pride members strengthen social bonds through scent-marking, shared meals, grooming rituals, purring circles, and vigorous head or cheek rubbing. To outsiders this may seem informal or overly familiar, but among Felineans it confirms trust, comfort, and belonging.

Felinean culture values freedom, grace, memory, and self-command. They respect instinct, but they do not worship mindless impulse. A Felinean who cannot control their reflexes is considered dangerous. A Felinean who ignores instinct entirely is considered lost.

Abilities

Felineans possess exceptional agility, balance, and spatial awareness. They can leap, climb, twist, land, and recover from falls with far greater control than most humanoid races.

Their Predator’s Grace allows them to recover quickly from stumbles, impacts, sudden drops, or uneven terrain. They are difficult to disorient through motion alone and can adapt rapidly during chases or close-range fights.

Their keen senses include heightened smell, hearing, low-light vision, and motion detection. Skilled Felineans can notice hidden movement, cloaked figures, disturbed air, unfamiliar scents, or subtle changes in posture before others recognize danger.

Their Instinctive Reflex gives them exceptional reaction speed under stress. In combat, they often read micro-movements, breathing shifts, shoulder tension, and weight distribution to anticipate attacks.

Through Softstep Adaptation, Felineans can reduce sound and heat trace for brief periods. This makes them effective infiltrators, scouts, thieves, and escape artists, especially in urban ruins, low-light areas, and vertical terrain.

Felineans are not usually built for brute-force confrontation. Their strengths are evasion, precision, ambush, mobility, and choosing when not to fight.

Relationship to Postremo Limine

Felineans occupy a flexible place in Postremo Limine. They can exist near Safe Zones, wild Nodes, urban ruins, jungle territories, and trade routes without fully belonging to any one side.

Diver groups often hire Felineans as guides, scouts, infiltrators, rooftop runners, or relic-site navigators. Their ability to move quietly through unstable spaces makes them valuable, but their loyalty usually depends on payment, respect, and whether the job violates Pride interests.

Most Felineans avoid direct conflict unless defending territory, kin, young, sacred routes, or Pride-held resources. When provoked, they are difficult to corner and rarely fight on an enemy’s terms.

Fighting Felineans in low light is strongly discouraged. Their vision, hearing, balance, and mobility often give them a decisive advantage in darkness, rooftops, alleys, forests, and broken interiors.

Factions tend to view Felineans as useful but hard to control. They are too social to be true loners, too independent to be reliable servants, and too clever to be dismissed as simple beast-folk.

Entities generally treat Felineans like any other race of Postremo Limine, though Felinean Prides often survive by detecting danger early, avoiding predictable paths, and abandoning territory before a threat fully closes in.

A Felinean may guide you through the dark. A Pride may decide whether you ever leave it.
