Codex Entry

Errare

The infection left behind by the Collapse

Overview

Errare is an infectious phenomenon associated with the Collapse. It emerged from the gate reported at the center of the Central Authority’s Safe Zone and contaminated the settlement and surrounding territory.

Caldre Voxis closed the source gate, but Errare and those infected by it remained. Its true nature is unknown.

Appearance

Infected people appear glitchy. Goo-like material emerges from their noses and mouths.

When an infected person is stabbed, shot, or slashed, goo also emerges from the wounds.

The goo can wrap itself around someone who touches it.

Transmission

Infection occurs through prolonged physical contact with Errare or through the goo entering a person’s mouth.

The material’s tendency to wrap around someone touching it can prolong contact. Infected people also attempt to spread the infection to those who are not infected.

Infected Behavior

Infected people retain basic functions. They can walk, chase, and physically attack others, targeting people who are not infected.

They can make sounds and may be capable of speech. Most reports indicate that they do not recognize people they previously knew.

Their remaining physical abilities therefore provide little indication of how much of their former awareness survives.

Reported Dormancy

Errare is currently described as dormant because no recent activity has been reported except during attempts to take or pick it up.

Previously infected people who have not been killed retain intact bodies during this dormant stage. They will attempt to infect someone trying to take or pick up Errare.

Disturbance remains a known circumstance in which infection attempts occur.

Recovery and Resistance

It is unknown whether anyone has recovered from Errare infection or successfully resisted it.

No confirmed recovery or resistance is established in the available accounts.

Current Status

Errare remains associated with the ruined territory left by the Collapse. Its reported dormancy, surviving infected population, and response to attempts at removal remain central to its present danger.
